Meet Jessie Wright

Meet Jessie Wright, the potter behind JAW Pottery, a small-batch ceramics studio based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She works out of a retrofitted garage, crafting modern pieces in soft tones (with the occasional colour and floral pop). Jessie's obsessed with snacks, cute teacups, and making everyday things feel a little more special. Her handmade mugs, serving sets, and wedding gifts are all about slow living and bringing joy to your daily rituals.

Why Pottery?

Jessie first picked up clay at 15, taking pottery classes with her stepmom. It stuck in a way that school never quite did. Growing up in a home where self-sufficiency was a given. Side hustles always on the go, she spent her twenties doing what she had to do while keeping something of her own alive on the side: pop-ups at farmers markets, homemade bread subscriptions, dog walking. Whatever it took.

The turning point came when a woman was looking to sell an entire studio's worth of equipment. Jessie said "I'll take it!" before she'd fully thought it through, and things started rolling from there. She and her partner bought a house with a garage she could claim as a studio. Her mom helped insulate and drywall it so she could work year-round. The biggest upgrade? Removing the garage door and putting in two windows. Now she can watch her garden while she works.

Today, Jessie is a mom to a sweet young boy. Being self-employed isn't just a preference, it's how she shows up fully for her work and her family. JAW Pottery is the thing that's always been hers.

About Handmade

All products are wedged, wheel thrown, trimmed, handled, and glazed by hand, and while Jessie strives for uniformity, each piece is unique in its own way. Her glazes and some clays are hand-mixed in small batches, so they may vary slightly from order to order. Those small differences are part of what makes each piece yours.
